Digital incentives for sustainable mobility: AI, gamification, and nudging
Behavioral change is considered one of the key levers for a successful mobility transition. At the same time, behavioral economics shows that everyday decisions are rarely made purely rationally, but are strongly influenced by mental models, emotions, and contextual cues. Digital products like Duolingo, fitness apps, or rewards programs vividly demonstrate how gamification and targeted nudging can sustainably shape behavior.
In the Sustainable Transformers Talk, we explore how these mechanisms can be applied to mobility ecosystems—and what role artificial intelligence plays in this context. Together with experts from the automotive industry, rail, insurance, mobility services, and nudging research, we examine how AI-supported nudges are already being used, which effects are measurable, and where opportunities, limitations, and ethical considerations lie.
The talk combines scientific perspectives from behavioral economics with concrete real-world use cases and focuses on the question of how sustainable mobility behavior can be designed, scaled, and implemented in an economically viable way.
