What is Social Media Research?

Social Media Research – also known as social media exploration, social media analysis, or, in its more in-depth form, netnography – is  a qualitative research method that helps you understand the thoughts and feelings of your consumers. Our social media research formats help you gain new perspectives.

As part of our social media research, we examine how consumers talk about their product categories, brands, and experiences. Our experienced researchers observe and interpret consumer opinions from comments, reviews, forums, blogs, and videos. We combine this qualitative data with other online market research to develop a comprehensive understanding of your target market. This allows you to identify what consumers think, feel, and want–and what they may still be missing. Social media research is an unobtrusive, empathetic observation method. It reflects real-life situations and shows how people actually experience products, brands, and trends.

How does our social media research method work?

STEP 01

Define the research framework

At the outset, we establish a shared understanding of the tasks and challenges involved. Together with you, we define goals, topics, and focal points. We determine whether market data or other online sources should be included in addition to consumer opinions.

STEP 02

Identify & analyze online sources

We identify relevant online sources such as communities, blogs, and social media platforms where consumers discuss your topic. Our researchers carefully analyze the posts to identify and explore patterns, motives, and connections. This allows us to develop a lasting understanding of consumer perspectives and behavior.

STEP 03

Gain insights

From the qualitative analysis, we develop clear and meaningful consumer insights and key findings, which we condense into an empathetic storyline and visualize depending on the scope of the project. Prepared in this way, content sticks in the memory, is easier to communicate internally, and can be used more effectively.

STEP 04

Derive opportunity areas

We translate insights into concrete areas of action – opportunity areas – that form the basis for innovations, new services, or product developments. They bridge the gap between current market understanding and future opportunities.
